I am curious about this too, since my wife and I will be going on a RC cruise out of Galveston in December.

I played 2/4 limit every night on the Grand Princess out of Galveston in Dec 2004. One corner of the casino was set up as a poker room and they had 4 tables with good dealers. Every night there were 2 or 3 of them going. That's where I learned to play. It was good fun. At least half of the players, including me, were beginners. Very much like playing limit at Bally's, Flamingo, or Excalibur.

I called RC about my specific ship and they couldn't tell me anything.

I'm just going to ask the casino manager and if they don't typically spread a game I'll ask if they would consider it if enough interest surfaces.

On my first RC cruise they did not have poker at the casino. I spoke with the cruise director and got permission to post some signs offering a poker tournament mid day on Friday. I had close to 60 people show up and the tourney was an awesome success. The biggest problems I had were:

1. I didn't bring any chips and the casino refused to supply me with their tournament chips (even though they had plenty). I wound up using monopoly money and checkers.

2. The card room we played in was reserved by people celebrating the sabbath so we had to move the final table out to the pool area around 5pm or so

3. I didn't get to play since we had so many people that leaving things to themselves would prolly ruin the tourney. There were simply too many questions from players and since it was a re-buy, there were LOTS of calls for "Chips!".

I did however get together a group of players for the odd cash game after dinner - we simply played in the card room using chips from the casino (since we played cash, I figured it would be more appropriate to use chips with actual value, thus discouraging anyone from cheating that way).

I'm really jacked for it. We are taking a cruise out of Baltimore to mexico. The major benifit is that it is 9 nights for $600 and I dont have to pay for plane tickets to get there (I live in DC). There are plenty of days at sea to drink and party.

I was hoping that the casino might spread a cash game due to the recent popularity. I guess I don't mind using casino chips but I just don't want to have to organize anything myself. If nothing else I'll be able to play online via their onship wifi.

how much does the online wifi cost?

On Holland America (for the PPM) the charge is pretty outrageous and the signal is pretty sketchy.

Might work better for you when you are going down the east coast of the U.S. though (as opposed to roaming around the Caribbean or down the coast of Mexico)

First: On my last cruise with RC in '04 there was a tourney organized by one of the passengers. He put up notes on the cabin doors and ran it himself (he brought chips and cards with him). I think about 15 people showed up. I decided that I'd rather be by the pool, at the buffet, at a show, on a beach, or whatever rather than spending 4 or 5 hours playing cards.
