Stars rebuys and the art of the deep jam
I realized last week, after a few of NoahSD's posts, that I tend to jam with 40+xBB, into smallish pots quite frequently in the stars rebuys. I felt pretty strongly that it really helped my results, but wanted a few concrete examples why.
My feeling is that: -the average 3-10$ rebuy player is lost deep. They make the same decisions they would in a freezeout, even though the stacks are 5 x larger. -Big bets (especially huge bets) make them think weakness So tonight, I had some good examples of my plan in action. Stars 3$ R&A 20K #1: Poker Stars No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t100/t200 (Ante: t25) 9 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: t5520 UTG+1: t8525 MP1: t16665 MP2: t9048 MP3: t28275 CO: t32155 Button: t19465 SB: t18797 hero: t8155 Pre-flop: (9 players) hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG calls t200 (pot was t300), UTG+1 calls t200 (pot was t500), MP1 folds, MP2 calls t200 (pot was t700), MP3 calls t200 (pot was t900), 2 folds, SB calls t100 (pot was t1100), hero raises all-in t8130, UTG calls all-in t5295, 3 folds, SB calls t7930 (pot was t14225). i like it. When i used to play a ton of the <$5 tournaments i found that just open pushing AQ+,TT+ in the early stages of the tournament would get somre really loose calls.

Re: Stars rebuys and the art of the deep jam
I'm gonna start doing this.
The one thing I don't like about it is how incredibly exploitable it is if there's a good player in the hand. I guess you make up for it, though, when people make horrible calls. |

Re: Stars rebuys and the art of the deep jam
Its not nearly as exploitable as you think. I only jam premium hands. It actually plays in my favor if someone tries to 'trap' me (which I suspecy they do if I jam 2-3 times at a table). It causes them to let me see a cheap flop when they have a huge hand. If I jam, I would have called there push 9 times out of 10 anyway. The only way to exploit it, is to fold less than AQ, JJ if I push for 40+xBB.

Re: Stars rebuys and the art of the deep jam
It costs us a lot of value against players who understand the significance of stack size because we lose action to them when we have our value hands. And, if they're really observant, then they know what hands to take out of our range when we don't push in spots like this.
Anyway, I still really like the move, as I'm describing maybe 5% of players in the big stars rebuys. |

Re: Stars rebuys and the art of the deep jam
Yeah, I try to to it with multiple opponents. Costing ourselves value is a problem, but I think the times we double up makes up for it. I dont do this every time (in fact not even most times with AA-QQ, AK), so I dont worry too much about them assuming I dont have AA if I make a standard reraise. Watch out though, it is freaking addicting. Like the first time you tried to pwn limpers or resteal with air.

[/ QUOTE ] It's crazy sometimes. I really find I'm more likely to get called in lower limits when I push, than when I value bet the river. These low limit players have the mentality that they don't want to be bluffed at- so they simply call. |
