If it makes OP feel any better, I was just such a maroon yesterday at the Taj. I had KT hoping to spike a queen for the gutshot and totally missed that my T alone made a one card straight on the river.

Flipping up one's hand and letting cards speak is definitely +EV. If nothing else, people knowing I was chasing a gutshot (based on implied odds) should loosen up my uber-tight table image.
