Of course. Records only count as much as the individual wants them to anyway. Most people are very uptight when it comes to these 'records' and [censored]. Baseball is a completely arbitrary game that ppl happen to resonate with. In my mind Barry is clearly (and far away) the best position player of the last long time in baseball. I don't generally enjoy attempting to comopare him to past players (ruth/mays/etc).

For many years all the good pitchers and hitters have been in the AL. Part of this has to do with the GMs being better over there. I also wouldn't be surprised if the AL generates more revenue.

Which brings me to an off topic but cool point: sports analysts would do well to commission economic studies to investigate sports phenomenon. Modern sports is a business and is subject to all the same pressures and metrics. Most of the stuff analysts think about is very narrow in scope and has nothing really to do with the ecnomics truly driving the industry.
