Makonnen\'s Muck Ups (Low Limit O8) #5
I think I chased this one too far. Comments inline.
Party Poker | Limit Omaha Ring game | Limit: $0.50/$1 7 players Converter Pre-flop: (7 players) Makonnen is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Makonnen raises, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls. The UTG raise is a bit much, but it's not the real mistake in the hand. Flop: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (12SB, 6 players) SB bets, BB calls, Makonnen calls, MP1 calls, CO raises, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, Makonnen calls, MP1 calls. OK. Here is where it gets more interesting, at least to me. I have the nuts on the flop, with a likely high only board. Should I cap it? I don't really trust top trips in O8, so I didn't. But that may have been incorrect. Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (12BB, 6 players) SB checks, BB checks, Makonnen checks, MP1 checks, CO bets, Button raises, SB calls, BB folds, Makonnen calls, MP1 calls, CO calls all-in $1.32, Button calls, SB calls, Makonnen calls, MP1 calls. Now I now longer have the nuts, although I'm not sure what hands with 8T in them are in this hand--but so many people are in the hand that anything is possible. Is calling two cold here wrong? At that point, I am getting 7.5:1 on the call, with likely overcalls behind me. At the end of the round, I got about 10:1 on my money, which feels fine, given that I have 9 outs to the scoop. Also, the all-in move felt like someone who had already decided this was their last hand. River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (23.6BB, 4 players + 1 all-in - Main pot: 23.6BB) SB bets, Makonnen calls, MP1 raises, Button 3-bets, SB caps, Makonnen folds, MP1 calls, Button calls. Low hits, no way is high good, fold. Results: Final pot: 36.6BB SB shows Ts 4c 3h 2s MP1 shows 7s 5h 3s 2d CO shows Jc Kc 3c Th Button shows Td Kd Qs 8h Reading it, I wonder if a pre-flop raise would have knocked anyone out. -Makonnen |

Re: Makonnen\'s Muck Ups (Low Limit O8) #5
I didn't read the results.
Flop: I don't like the call here. I raise hoping to push people out of the pot and not get outdrawn. Turn: This call is all right, however, with 6 players, it's very likely someone has a made straight or a flush draw, so you call hoping the river pairs the board. River: Good fold. I call here 1 and maybe 2 bets, but 4 bets indicates a nut hand from someone. |

[ QUOTE ]
I don't really trust top trips in O8 [/ QUOTE ] You have top set. Trips only exist when the board is paired. A set is always much stronger than trips. http://www.poker-strategy.org/defaul...9&tabid=85 You're welcome. I'm on a holy quest to clear up this common mistake. In any case, looks like you should have raised the flop, with top set... especially with this many people in, and such a dry board. Nice laydown on river. |
