I'd say his pre-Michigan work is sub-par, not pre-Illinois.

yeah, the "Enjoy your rabbit" album is awful. Michigan is great, though. as is 7 swans

I agree. Seven Swans has a few of my favorite tunes, in particular Sister. I am pumped that I can catch him on tour in September.
