Default ridiculous tips?!!?

was over at a local cardroom the other nite playing 5/5NL.
so obviously all we were playing with was with nickel and quarter chips and no single chips were on the table.
after the end of every hand the players would tip a MINIMUM of 5 bucks, and very often they would get tips anywhere between 10-30 bucks a hand! i calculated an average of about 80-100 bucks per half hour!
i won a 1k pot and felt "obligated" to tip 10bucks but the thing is i am used to tippin 1-5 bux a hand in casinos. am i being cheap or this is just an extreme case of "over" tipping?

silly overtipping. However, if the game is good enough, don't rock the boat. Go with the flow and look like you are there to have fun.

Evil of 5/5 is there really isn't a need for whites to be on the table often. Games I played that are raked ($4 max), the $1 change that usually is there gets fired to the dealer as the tip.

I run a game, usually 2 tables, with semi-professional dealers. We play once a week and the dealers are each averaging over $500 a night-$71 per hour! Crazy, but I'm happy for them. They do deal straight through with few breaks.

Yes, but there is a fine line between tipping away too much of your profit and not rocking the boat. I find that 5/5 NL games that become LAGfests also become "tipfests" as the alcohol flows during the night. You just gotta find that good balance.

Players will often toss a nickel in and ask to break it down to whites. You are right, tho...unless the average stack on a big game like that is 2-3k, then a nickel a pop seems excessive. I can see where it does kind of suck if you are in a game with 7-8 other people who are probably very well off financialy and don't care what they are tipping.

I sure hope that was a joke Psandman. I've seen too many decent & good dealers lose thier gaming cards permanately in house games. The short term just aint worth the long term in this business.
