College dorm game: rake question

If you get pushback, just ask the regulars to each buy a deck of quality cards (which you'll helpfully order in bulk for them). The cards can remain the property of each person who pays for them, but they'll be intended for use in the game. After the "season" is over they can keep the worn cards forevermore. Who could argue with that?

college kids bringing their own cards to a game = much increased chance of cheating.

Why not? The ones that show more often use more often.

Per night fee is much better than a rake, for a variety of reasons. Much easier for everyone to know when the door charge should be eliminated, for one thing.

If you intend to keep the cards at the end of the year, they are yours and you should pay for them yourself. However, if you don't intend to keep the cards at the end of the year, consider asking for donations in exchange for entry into a drawing.

For example, every dollar donated gets one entry into a drawing. Once enough money is donated to cover the costs associated with the cards, stop taking donations and stop entering names in the drawing. At the end of the year, draw some names and give the cards away.

I could see raking them to cover a percentage of the cards (a nitty friend did this with a nice set of chips he bought for our game), but if you're going to buy KEM cards, why are you going to buy 6 to 8 decks?
