Wow....really bad turn. Yea, I call.
Then if it's been a bad enough day so far I throw something across the room. |

Re: $60 - TT flopped set, facing C/R on turn.
Seems like a call to me. 23% to fill up, and couldn't he be semibluffing a straight, flush, or straight flush draw? Set of JJ seems unlikely since no raise pre flop. He could also have JT, 55, or even T9. These are all possible check raising hands and only KQ has you beat.

Yeah call even if you are often behind. You have to raise a bit more on the flop.

FWIW I raise preflop and raise flop more, but there's nothing wrong with how you played it (assuming you called).

i would play the same way, but depending on how i felt about the minraise i might bet more on the flop. if the guy had been minraising previous hands a lot i'd be raising more if this was the first i'd seen i'd play it pretty much the same.

Re: $60 - TT flopped set, facing C/R on turn.
FWIW I think your flop raise is fine, your turn check is fine, and your turn call is fine. Your flop raise has to accomplish two things...enough that you're not giving odds too great for him to draw to a straight vs. your set, but also a raise that doesn't pulverize any draw out of the hand...because you must get value from your sets.
Here, if he has either KQ or 98 exactly, for the open-ended straight draw, he needs 3-1 for calling to be correct IF he gets to see both the turn and river. Your raise gives him slightly LESS than 3-1 odds...and the reality is that he needs more than 3-1 for his drawing to be profitable given that you're going to make him pay again on the turn to see the last card at worse odds...and given that you have 7 flop outs and 10 turn outs to the boat. So don't be results-oriented about your raise. It was actually perfect as far as I'm concerned. The turn bet looks fine...I might make it 375-400 but that's mainly for value by then and 350 is very reasonable there. The turn call (the actual question you asked) is an absolute no-brainer. There are LOTS of things he makes this play with that you're beating, plus 10 outs to win the river when you're behind. Nothing in your play was troubling. What's troubling is that you look back at it and THINK it was wrong. That shows that playing it the way you did may or may not have been purposeful. Knowing the reasons why you do certain things (make certain raises, amounts, bets, calls, etc.) is the important thing for making the proper decision time and time again. |
