Re: Best tournament player of all time
how does TJ Cloutier not make this poll? He's won more tournaments than anyone.

El Diablo,
No offence, but without David Williams your poll lacks credibility. |

Re: Best tournament player of all time
The poster of this thread is so clueless its not even funny.
Ivey rapes in every event first of all. And you say you only care about wins? Well do you consider it a win when the opponant sucks out with the worst of it to win the title? It should be about consistency....which a lot of the current tourney players show. Ivey, Juanda, Men Master, Cunningham, Grinder, Gavin Smith, etc, etc, etc. |

Re: Best tournament player of all time
El Diablo,
There aren't enough classic WPT guys on this list. People like Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari and Freddy Deeb dominated the star filled fields of early WPT events. Because these fields contained only top top pros, they were harder events to win than these donkey filled WSOP events with 4000 fish. I propose the following equation: (WPT Wins Prior to 2005)*(1.4 awesome points) + (WPT wins since 2005) + (WSOP wins / 1.4 awesome points) = total all time awesome points. I suspect this will give the answer you seek I don't have the time to run these numbers this afternoon, but perhaps some of the true MTT fans could. |

Re: Best tournament player of all time
W2K,
"Well do you consider it a win when the opponant sucks out with the worst of it to win the title?" If they suck out and win, that means they had more chips to start the hand with. I think the chances that they got a stack that big without playing great is pretty much impossible. You can say whatever about "consistency" and "odds" and stuff, but when it comes down to the best of all time, it's all about winning. |

Re: Best tournament player of all time
KBZ,
Freddy Deeb was on the borderline like some of the other guys I've mentioned. He's a great, but not an all-time legend. While The Magician has had some great showings, he has not showed consistent domination like the greats - Brunson, Hellmuth, Madsen, Negreanu, Ungar, etc. |
