I dont have any real reads here havent been at the table that long but this is a 109$ tourney so the level of the average player is pretty high. At first i was thinking it was a classic limp-raise with AA. But then i was button and he may have thought i was making a button/squeeze play with 2 limpers in. Thanks for input. |

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
Im calling here, your only in trouble if he has AA or KK which is very unlikely given the massive overbet. Your more likely coin flipping with a lower PP or dominated his Ax, Kx, etc.

JJ mabye but that's the lower end of his range |

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
To me, the massive overbet widens villain's range since he obviously doesnt want action.

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
so you think villan is risking like 4500 chips to bluff at 500 chips? This doesen't look at all like the classic limp in ep with AA and then reraise?

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
but why would villain raise so much with a monster, wouldnt he want to bet smaller so he will get a caller and get value out of his hand.
ok...i didnt realize this was a limp/reraise but i still dont think its going to be aa/kk nearly as much as something else that doesnt want action. |

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
Personally i think this is a situation that kind of depends upon the level that your playing. If its a 6$ buy in i think players are doing this with way too broad a range and i have way to much value to lay this down. However at the 109$ level like this was i think his hand range is fairly narrow. There is a however a descent chance that he thinks im making a steal and moving in with 88-JJ. However in the actual hand that this took place the following happened...
***** Hand History for Game 4795867528 ***** NL Texas Hold'em Trny:26426105 Level:2 Blinds(30/60) - Monday, July 24, 00:26:39 ET 2006 Table 2k Added(772962) Table #7 (Real Money) Seat 10 is the button Total number of players : 9 Seat 1: DrunkPPlaya ( 2836 ) Seat 2: dolllabilz ( 2430 ) Seat 3: kimo99 ( 810 ) Seat 4: mikem1181 ( 6358 ) Seat 5: expressman ( 4410 ) Seat 7: DontStop ( 4775 ) Seat 8: eyesee ( 3375 ) Seat 9: BDHornet1424 ( 2730 ) Seat 10: Nevanotag ( 5096 ) Trny:26426105 Level:2 Blinds(30/60) ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to Nevanotag [ Ks Ah ] kimo99 folds. mikem1181 calls [60]. expressman calls [60]. If you do not want it to be used, please act now. Nevanotag is all-In [4851] ** Dealing Flop ** [ Kc, 2c, Kh ] ** Dealing Turn ** [ 7c ] ** Dealing River ** [ 9c ] Nevanotag shows [ Ks, Ah ] three of a kind, kings. mikem1181 shows [ Ad, As ] two pairs, aces and kings. mikem1181 wins 1262 chips from side pot #1 with two pairs, aces and kings. Nevanotag wins 10342 chips from the main pot ....And im a HUGE luckbox, but my initial thought of AA limp-raise was correct but then i talked myself into thinking it was something different. |

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
I would fold this. Here is my thinking
The villain maybe a donk. I have been limp re-raised with junk and limp re-raised with a premium hand. You have no reads. This is a massive overbet, and villain might have KK or AA and pray that you call with something like JJ or QQ. I would fold this hand and see if the villain does this again. You have a good stack of chips, don't risk it on a coin toss, lets get it in when we have an overpair to an underpair. If this where I $10 tournament and I had slightly less than average, I would probably call it. But given your stack size and the fact that it is a $100, I might wait for another opp. |

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
This is going to be a stupid and inconsequential point. That said, I call here every time. It doesn't happen that often, but I was looking through my stats, on party, EVERY TIME the guy had aces (total of 3 times). On stars, the guy NEVER had aces (total of 2 times - he had AK once and KQ once).

Re: a place to lay down AK preflop?
Put me in the fold camp. I hate huge call offs like this with AK. I can't think of hardly anything that I hugely favor and villian will have Aces or kings a good portion of the time.
