Default Does anybody else enjoy watching TV on mute with closed caption?

Lately I've been watching most of my TV with it on mute. Often I enjoy the shows much more this way. Also, some shows that I would normally grow frustrated with and turn off, I watch completely. Does anybody else feel this way?

After a little thought, here are some of the benefits of muted TV:

1) Obviously, you skip all the absolutely pointless blather. (maybe ironic, given the content of this post)

2) No commercials (yeah, I have Tivo, but live TV has its benefits too).

3) The closed caption text is often pretty funny. It often includes typos that are even better than the real thing.

4) My imagination gets to provide the intonation of the things said, which, I think, can help make them more interesting. For example, I just read TJ say "I was due" after sucking out to win an event last year, and I laughed out loud. If I had heard the audio, I don't think I would have laughed that hard.

drool,

I can't imagine watching TV without sound. That said, sound + CC is how I prefer to roll when watching solo, although this only makes sense when watching pre-recorded shows. Viewing live sports with CC is pointless and gives me a headache.

If you're watching tv on mute to spice things up you should start abusing either drugs or alcohol.

Actually, while drunk (I've given up weed) is one of the times mute is especially enjoyable to me. I don't sit in silence though -- I almost always have music playing.

I watched most of ESPN's Sunday Night Football games on mute last year. Not with the close caption however.

I too would have a huge problem differentiating between regularly scheduled programming and a commercial. I wish someone sold a product to tell the two apart...
