Pearl Jam- Black. This came to mind right away. Not just the lyric, but the guitars and stuff building to the climax is really really good.

[/ QUOTE ] Black is great, especially the guy who talked about being in HS and getting dumped. Play "Black" and "What it Takes" by Aerosmith over and over. But, seriously, you should all be executed for the fact that this thread is over 100 posts long and no one has mentioned "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Goddamn Jones. He said I'll love you 'til I die She told him you'll forget in time As the years went slowly by She still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall Went half crazy now and then He still loved her through it all Hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed Dated 1962 He had underlined in red Every single I love you I went to see him just today Oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away First time I'd seen him smile in years He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today You know she came to see him one last time Oh and we all wondered if she would And it kept running through my mind This time he's over her for good |

Re: Songs that are almost too sad to listen to
almost too sad? I actually avoid listening to this song, because it is far too sad for me.
I will follow you into the dark and for anyone horribly depressed by this video, I give you the antidote. |

Re: Songs that are almost too sad to listen to
Almost the whole Afghan Whigs album "Gentlemen" but I'll post these lyrics for "What Jail is Like"
:: What Jail Is Like Lyrics I'll warn you, if cornered, I'll scratch my way out of the pen Wired, an animal The claustrophobia begins You think I'm scared of girls Well maybe But I'm not afraid of you You want to scare me then you'll cling to me no matter what I do Tell you a secret They shared a needle once or twice I loved her, she loved me We slept together a couple of times You think I'm proud of this Well maybe But the shame you never lose Infatuated with a lunatic and cornered by the muse And it goes down every night This must be what jail is really like And I will scratch my way out of this pen, again Lonely? Maybe Or maybe not It all depends Your ideal, your image Your definition of a friend If what you're shoveling is company Then I'd rather be alone Resentment always goes much further than it was supposed to go |

I Know You Are But What Am I?, Mogwai [/ QUOTE ] This song doesn't have words, therefore it isn't sad. |

Re: Songs that are almost too sad to listen to
When I got my heart broken in 8th grade (1986) this song made me so very very sad:
[ QUOTE ] Phil Collins Against All Odds How can i just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace When i stand here taking every breath with you, ooh You're the only one who really knew me at all How can you just walk away from me, When all i can do is watch you leave Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears You're the only one who really knew me at all So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space And there's nothing left here to remind me, Just the memory of your face Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space And you coming back to me is against all odds and that's what i've got to face I wish i could just make you turn around, Turn around and see me cry There's so much i need to say to you, So many reasons why You're the only one who really knew me at all So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space But to wait for you, is all i can do and that's what i've got to face Take a good look at me now, cos i'll still be standing here And you coming back to me is against all odds It's the chance i've gotta take [/ QUOTE ] |
