One of those mid-stack decisions
Blinds 300/600, 50 Ante. 9 handed
I have 12.5k in chips. MP with 14.9K raises to 1700 I have AsKs in the BB. My instinct here is to reraise, but a serious reraise leaves me pot comitted after the flop. So clearly a push is a good option, but so often they fold to this push, I think I'm losing equity. Is it better to sometimes limp here and try to trap, or is the push in this spot really the right play most always with these stacks? Thanks -Scott |

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
I think a push is fine here. You don't want to put 1/3 of your chips in there when a flop is going to miss 2/3 of the time. There may be arguments for a call as well, but I prefer a push personally.

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
I shove here. I suppose making a committing reraise and shoving the flop is ok as well.

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
If you dont push and the he hits his bluff you are in trouble. Thats why i would push.

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
If your opponent has a medium pair instead of AQ that's a great result.

The reason I'm asking, is I pushed and OP folded. This is not really the best result for a hand as strong as AKs. [/ QUOTE ] Since you will be OOP for the rest of the hand if you just call (and miss the flop 2/3 of the time), and others at the table might slow down a little on your blinds, and you got 4.5BB's, I don't mind the result. I don't mind a re-raise PF then a open push on any flop, but the pot already represents a 10% increase in your stack and I think that pushing is the lowest variance play (besides folding), so nothing wrong with a push here. Can't stack em on every hand. Regards, Woodguy |

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
It beats making a min raise and giving him odds to call and then getting played off the hand because you have poor position. Or giving him the chance to outflop you cheaply, if you plan on pushing any flop.

Re: One of those mid-stack decisions
played off the hand? you act first and if you make any kind of raise at all your only option will be to shove the flop
