Re: Gambler followed home and robbed at gunpoint (Hawaiian Gardens)
[ QUOTE ]
You're really quite paranoid aren't you? [/ QUOTE ] It's certainly nothing like the OP, but after having my laptop stolen from my home two weeks ago a lot of behaviors that used to strike me as paranoid no longer do. Granted, it's not the greatest neighborhood, but it sounds like neither is the HG. |

[ QUOTE ]
It must be blissful to live in that naive liberal world where one does not have to constantly be aware of ones surroundings. [/ QUOTE ] wtf? It is nice to live in a safe neighbourhood, yes. I still think Wongboy is a bit a extreme in his actions. |

I still think Wongboy is a bit a extreme in his actions. [/ QUOTE ] You really do not understand. There have been home invasion robberies in the some of the nicer neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Studio City, Sherman Oaks(NORTH of the Bl, etc). I live in a 1.3 million dollar house. The average price of a house on my street is more than that. Yet there are gang injunctions less than 2 miles from my house. People that live in Los Angeles and do not develop a second set of eyes do themselves a great disservice. I will give you an example....I am waiting at a stop light at 2am coming home from Commerce. A guy starts walking in the middle of the street towards my car. I only see him because I am paying attention. Before he gets within 10 feet of my car, I drive through the red light. Someone not paying attention would have been car jacked that night. You call it paranoid, I call it avoiding being a victim of crime. OP is just doing what is necessary to keep himself safe. |

Someone not paying attention would have been car jacked that night. [/ QUOTE ] Why not use those psychic abilities to win the lotery instead of predicting pedestrian traffic patterns and intent? Yes I think you are paranoid in this circumstance. |

[/ QUOTE ] Why not use those psychic abilities to win the lotery instead of predicting pedestrian traffic patterns and intent? Yes I think you are paranoid in this circumstance. [/ QUOTE ] A person walking down the middle of a street at 2 am is not a "normal" pedestrian pattern. They are drunk, high, or they are up to something--maybe all the above. I live in a small midwestern city, and if anyone started walking toward my car at a stoplight at 2 am, I'd be hitting the gas even quicker than Sternroolz. Driving alone late at night, I take the same approach as Wongboy. Have only needed to head to a police station once, however. (And the guy following me gunned it when he realized what parking lot I had pulled into.) Even in podunk, we have carjackings, armed robberies, and because it is podunk, enough meth labs to supply the whole country. What you call paranoia, I call diligence and common sense. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Truth is as strange as fiction. [/ QUOTE ] Fact is stranger than fiction, as fiction has to make sense. (sorry do not know who to attribute that quote to, but I like it) [/ QUOTE ] Worst. Quote. Ever. |
