AK....and probably why I\'ll never be more than a small stakes player
I was playing at a hollywoodpoker 2/4 game, and picked up AK offsuit in the cutoff seat. The table was a little wild but nothing extremely out of the ordinary. Anyway, preflop, the pot was raised by the guy in third position, then threebet by the guy two to my right and capped by the guy directly on my right. Now, if it had been threebet to me I would have capped it, but do I call four bets here? I'm in position, but it's been capped. I can already be in bad shape and I haven't put a penny into the pot.
Thanks ~Bux |

I'd fold AK here rather than call 3 bets cold (let alone 4). With that much action before you there's almost no way there are 3 Kings and 3 Acess still in the deck for you to hit on the flop.

I fold this and never give it a second thought. I would even say this is an easy fold.

Wow, really good point, I never even thought of that.

Re: AK....and probably why I\'ll never be more than a small stakes player
Unless you have a particular reason to believe that at least one and preferably two of the three raises in front of you is total junk, you need to fold. At best, you're in a scenario where your sharing a ton of overcard with you opponents up against QQ or JJ or something like that.
If you are going to play this, I prefer capping, but I'd only do that in a case where one or more of my opponents was a total maniac and figured to have hands significantly worse than the AQ+, TT+ type hands I'm expecting to be up against. |

Would you call with JJ or TT here?

How about JTs? [/ QUOTE ] no. you have even very similar equity against their range, and it's just as bad. in fact i'd rather call with 78s |

Re: AK....and probably why I\'ll never be more than a small stakes play
The only hands I'd play here are AA and KK. AK is a standard fold. Also, don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes every time they play, and also it's a lot easier to play well when you're not in the heat of the moment.

Obviously a lot depends on the table but if it was 3 to me I would prefer to fold. With the action capped to me I'd fold it.
