Default Digital Camera Recommendations

I'm getting ready to buy one. Anyone have any thoughts on what to get and where to buy it from?

What I'm looking for is a good entry level model.

Thanx in advance.

if you want any close ups you need about 10 or 12x inmo. panasonic makes the z7 with 12x zoom and another one like it with ten x zoom and a little smaller. these arent shirt pocket cameras but work real nice. about 330 bucks each. you will move up so get a decent one right away. the little ones are really nice for just shooting pictures of people and stuff close up with 3x zoom. make sure you get lithium ion battery as the regular batteries die fast.

Good info, Thanks again.

I've wanted to take up photography as a serious hobby for a long time, and the time is now.

I know it's more than an entry level camera and it's not compact but a good used Canon Rebel with the basic lens can be found on Ebay very cheaply right now. The XT model of the Rebel is a little more expensive but the orginal Rebel is really a bargin now. It's an awesome camera.

If you want a lower end "point and shoot" type camera with still some user controls, these other guys have listed some good option. I'd also look into the Olympus models with the 10x zoom. Not sure what the latest model is but it used to be the C-740, C-750 etc. Super cameras, easy to use and fairly small for having a 10x.
