Default Scam or Not? Tell me what you think.

This kid in this story is a friend of a friend. Assuming all details are true, how likely is this a set-up scam?

Kid is in Vegas for WSOP. While staying and playing, he is befriended by someone who claims he is a local MSNL pro. Kid hangs out with him for a few days, they play some poker together in the casinos, and Kid with "great instincts" says he trusts local pro completely. Local Pro then invites him to play in a very "soft" high stakes home game outside of the city, min buy-in $50K. Kid says ok. 2 hours in, kid is winning $30K, so has $80k in front of him. The following hand comes up.

One raiser, kid calls in the SB w/67d.
Flop is 89Td. Kid bets, guys raises, kid calls.
Turn is blank, they get all the money in guy shows, AJd and river is Qd. Kid loses to higher straight flush.

What do you think? Bad beat or set-up from the go?

My feeling is the latter.

You forgot to add "MSNL" pro?

Mid stakes for a 50K buyin?

Post smells of bs.

So they couldn't have set him up over a few different hands - it had to be all his money with a straight flush losing to a royal. What BS.

One of the reasons casinos resisted spreading NL for so long is there are always allegations of cheating around a NL game if it goes long enough. If you play the game enough somebody is going to lose a very large sum of money and be left wondering if they got cheated. Some of these people that think they may have gotten cheated will say they were cheated.
