Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I wait to look at my cards simply to ensure I dont fall in love with them before the action starts. JJ looks great until you have a raise and a reraise in front of you early. I've noticed i try to talk myself into hands more if i look before the action. Just me.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I think it depends on how used to playing online you are. If you are really really used to seeing your hole cards right away, it might be psychologically more difficult to avoid doing so, enough so, so that it's more damaging than whatever tells you might end up giving off.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I wait while in the blinds or on the button, (almost) nobody pays attention to you in other positions. If you look right away in the blinds you will actually slow the game down because then everyone tries to pick up on tells.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I try very hard to resist the urge to look at my cards until its my turn. sometimes i slip up. the real funny thing i have noticed in these lower buy in tourneys, you can be UTG and still be last to look at your cards.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I like the idea of not looking until the guy to my right is acting, as it forces me to follow the action around the table and think about what I'd do with different hands.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
One of the advantages of not looking at your cards unitl it is your turn to act is that often you can make an open push or resteal push without ever looking at your cards.

Re: Waiting to check my hole cards
I played a live STT last night and being an impatient sort of guy, and this not being the WSOP, I kept sneaking a peek at my cards as they were dealt. I didn't think I was giving off tells as such and I was card dead so I just folded a lot for a couple of hours. Then I changed tack, and watched the action at the table, before looking at my cards in turn. The main thing I realised was the benefit of this was that I stopped playing the cards and started playing the situation, generally being pretty sure that I was going to put in a raise, or deciding to float, before looking at my cards and this made a huge difference.
