Default Too Many Connections in XP - how do I increase this?

I've got a network on which I'm sharing around 8 computers; XP won't allow more than 5 connections at a time to a resource. When I've got all the machines on, some can't access a folder that I want them all to share (I get a "too many connections" error). Is there a way to increase this (arbitrary, annoying) number? I don't want to have to get Server Edition. :/

Thanks for any help-

-bb.

My max seems to be 10. My google search seemed to imply that this was the norm. Are you really hitting the cap under 8?

I checked as well - Home Edition's 5, Pro's 10. I'm throwing Pro on the serving machine tonight; hopefully that will work.

Thanks-

If you need more than 10, your options are Server 2003 or Linux/Samba. Linux is free, but Samba is definitley harder to set up than Windows networking.

[/ QUOTE ]When I was into Linux (about 7 years ago) SMB was a royal pain in the butt. I checked it recently, and it seemed a WHOLE LOT easier.

You're right that it's still harder than windows. It's linux.
