Assuming this is Internet/Website related you are probably around 7 years too late. Its amazingly competitive and without a huge marketing budget it is near impossible to get a site of that nature ranked high on any search engine etc.

Dont let me put a downer on your idea though, with enough hard work I am a big believer that anyone can do anything, just trying to say dont expect an easy ride and its possibly worth considering other avenues.

OP: Chuck's right, the industry is very competitive and there are numerour government regulations involved. You should do a search for posts made by Domonic in OOT who was involved in the industry as an actor/producer for several years. Perhaps even PM him to see what information he can give you about the industry.

But seriously, I would think that there are better avenues of making money. The social stigma amongst your family and friends may be a big enough pain to not be worth it (perhaps even if you didn't care what people thought too much).

I have a friend that ownes a webhosting company. He had a customer in Italy that he did hosting and server management for. This guy had 9 softcore porn sites ranging from $25 to $50 a month and a huge free site that fed all his paysites. I was thinking about trying to get into the internet smut market at the time so I asked him for this guys email address. I got to know him a little and he basically told be all their is to know about how his business worked.

This was three years ago and at the time he had 3500 recurring membrships with 80% of them being members for 4 or more months. The average price for membership was $33. 90% of them were signed up through affiliates which were paid 25%. Credit card processing charges were 14% which included charge back costs. His hosting and server management bill averaged a little under $5000 a month. He bought all of his content from eastern European countries and averaged $5000 a month. Add it all up and he was pulling in about $65000 a month. Not too bad for one guy sitting on his ass in front of a computer at home although he did put in alot of hours everyday. So their is definitely some money to be made.

Chuck mentioned a huge marketing budget and getting ranked high in search engines. This guy spent zero on marketing and didnt put any effort into search engine placement. The key to his success was affiliates and networking.
