General Dealer Errors
I've never paid too much attention to the minutia of dealing until I started hearing some of you guys, primarily Mason, discussing how bad the average dealer is out there. I've been toying with the idea of getting a dealing job here in town so I picked up a copy of The Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook and having read through it, I can now see TONS of "little" things the local dealers are doing wrong.
Just last night I witnessed dealers rolling the deck, straightening and squaring the muck, burning cards one on top of another instead of underneath, shuffling with a loud zipping sound, not calling the action properly, exposing the bottom card on the deck to the 1 seat (me!) after the cut because the cut card isn't square with the deck when picked up, picking up folded hands and dropping them on top of the muck, and, of course, the extraneous talking thing. The list keeps going on and on, too. Though most of the infractions are relatively minor, they are numerous. I think I have a better handle on the quality of, at least locally, poker dealers out there. |

Re: General Dealer Errors
Which casino do you play at in town? There are a few dealers at the Desert Diamond that have me wondering how they got their job.

Re: General Dealer Errors
Usually Casino del Sol. I haven't been to the Diamond in a while because I hate their jackpot rake when there's no flop.

Re: General Dealer Errors
The MOST common dealer error, and they ALL do it, is dealing me bad cards.

Re: General Dealer Errors
Just tonight at the Taj I saw:
Dealer spread the deck for the next dealer face up, not a big deal but it was funny because the experienced dealer coming in looked at her like WTF? Dealer cut nickels in 4-high stacks. One dealer who insisted on destroying the board everytime before mucking the losing hands or pushing the pot. And they all roll..but I roll too so we'll let that go. |
