Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
In my most recent trip to Borgata, I got into a discussion/side bet with a player regarding the tendency of Borgata poker chips to stick together. Many claim that its a magnet, I had heard it explained as a suction caused by a slight indentation in the center of the chips. There is in fact a small metal piece in the middle of the chips, but I don't think its magnetic. Does anyone know for sure with some kind of proof? much appreiated.

Re: Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
It's the filth and grime covering the chips that cause them to stick together.

Re: Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
I've heard both theories. I'm dubious that suction would cause them to stick together like that, but i'm no physicist, so i await a more informed opinion on here.
The Bicycle's chips (and I think some of the Commerce chips, though I may be wrong) are similar. |

Suction. Squeeze two together and they stick even harder.

Re: Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
Its suction. A nice test you can do is to drop a chip, from a height of about an inch, onto another one. Try this with flat magnets as well. You'll notice the magnets instantly jerk into alignment. Whereas the chips will "coast" slighty across each other before stopping. With the magnets obviously the magnetic attration is jerking them into position. With the chips what you're seeing is the chip floating on a cushion of air across each other. When all the air escapes from inbetween them it settles down and "sticks".

Re: Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
i tried explaining this, but was told that magnets have different levels of magnetism, these are simply "weak magnets" I don't buy it, but was just curious on any other thoughts.

I vote for suction.
And not just cos' I like it. P.S. Borgata chips don't stick to my fridge. |

Re: Borgata poker chips, Magnet or suction?
I collect casino chips, but I don't really consider myself an expert. As stated, it is suction causing them to stick together. They are Bud Jones chips, and contain a metal insert (but it isn't a magnet). Basically they are plastic chips, and the center inlay is slightly indented which causes a vacuum effect.
