Superfly Jimmy Snuka off the top of the steel cage for the first time is the single greatest moment in wrestling history (for me at least).

Caveat - I haven't watched wrestling since I was about 15 in 1987.

[/ QUOTE ]

This image is the second time Snuka attempted the move in Madison Square Garden. A year earlier, when he was a heel, he made the leap in a WWF title match against Bob Backlund. Backlund rolled out of the way, escaped the cage, and held onto the title.

Extra: Found a very good quality version of the Snuka/Piper Cocunut incident on Piper's Pit

I'm not reading this whole mf'ing thread but here are the winners (losers) in order of when they occur to me:

Worst:
Five Knuckle Shuffle
STF-U
People's Elbow
Leg Drop Of Doom
Garvin Stomp
Worm
DumbAsser (anything by Billy Gunn is bad)
Boston Crab/Walls of Jericho (nobody does this move properly and it looks weak. Jericho's WoJ was supposed to be a half-crab but he lazily made it into a full crab later on and it looked horrible and nobody on earth would submit to it)
Sharpshooter (only when The Rock did it)

I can't think of any more off the top of my head.

Best:
Stone Cold Stunner
Rock Bottom
Sharpshooter/Scorpion Deathlock
Razor's Edge
PerfectPlex
Crossface Chickenwing
Anklelock
Five Star Frog Splash
Shooting Star Press
Crippler Crossface
Figure four (Flair)
Flying Elbow (Savage. Also Macho's over-the-top hotshot was the best move ever and somebody needs to dust it off)
Sweet Chin Music
Big Show's new Million Dollar Dream+backbreaker combo is pretty cool, although him trying to get submission wins is pretty much a jopke.
Yokozuna (for that matter, anybody 400+ lbs whose finisher consisted of him squashing some schlub with his girth)

Some tag teams with cool finishers:
Power and Glory
Demolition
Road Warriors
Hart Foundation
Dudley Boyz

Garvin Stomp was pretty lame.

[/ QUOTE ]

I dare you to say that to Ron Garvin.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know why, but I'm still laughing at this. Maybe because I'd never thought of Rugged Ronnie Garvin as a real person before.

i don't think anybody has mentioned it, but the old Van Daminator was also kind of cool, but I'm not sure if RVD's WWE character still does that.

[/ QUOTE ]

Van Terminator >>>>>>>>>>>&gt ; Van Daminator

He does neither on a regular basis because OMG you can't use chairz in the WWE. If he can stop getting busted for possession he'll probably do both more in ECW as long as it lasts more than 3 months.

Worst: Meng's Tongan Death Grip...like the Mandible Claw, but on the outside, and dumber.

Best: F5, Last Ride (when done right), Unprettier

Showster's new move is pretty awesome as long as he doesn't start tossing them across the ring every single time. less predictabilty plz.

That match with Flair was also awesome.

Best Moves
Jake "The Snake" Roberts - DDT
How many times have you almost paralyzed one of your friends with this one. You have to signal for it.

[/ QUOTE ]

In the fifth grade I DDTed my friend on the grass and cut his eyelid open. He had to go to the doctor and get it glued shut. It was nasty.

How have the Camel Clutch and the Boston Crab not made the list?

[/ QUOTE ]

Have you ever been put in either??? I had a gf put me in the camle cluth once and I almost friggin cried! And I was in retarded shape at the time.

[/ QUOTE ]

The actual severity of the move is irrelevant. The problem most people have with the Boston Crab and/or Camel Clutch is that the wrestlers never apply any actual pressure whatsoever so the move looks gay and totally unhurtful if not pleasant. It's basically turned into a resthold, and if they are actually afraid of causing injury then don't do them anymore. Nobody will miss either.

Just as an FYI, a lot of the "older" moves, such as the figure 4, are remnants of the Anglo-American grappling art known as "Catch Wrestling". I don't know much about Catch Wrestling, but it was considered an effective grappling art. There are photographs of Mitsuyo Maeda (who introduced Carlos Gracie to Jiu Jitsu) using Catch Wrestling holds. So some of the older techniques might have actual power if applied fully, but, since the advent of worked matches, may look weak.

My guess is that sometimes things that look cool are rather tame, and things that might look weak are devastating if applied at full power.
