None. If you have a 60" plasma TV, then the video game might burn onto the screen. The indicators, e.g. health, score, etc., can become marked onto the plasma screen after hours of play.

No plasma. I own this. The picture quality rivals plasma.

Is Game Cube even HDTV Compatable? You might want to consider this. Since you do have an HDTV you might want to get something that can produce HDTV Quality Graphics. Yes your girls might not care right now but there is a huge gap between 480i and the 760p or whatever you own. You might want to consider that. I'm assuming the new Wii or whatever is HDTV compatable but I could be wrong.

only old versions of the gamecube do 480p, and it also requires picking up a rare component cable kit for about $100 on ebay. and only certain games support it.

the wii does 480p/widescreen, but not 720/1080 (hdtv).

Never mind then.....hmmmm...that's kinda disappointing. As a 24 year old I had no intention of buying the Wii and won't even consider it now. I already own the 360 which isn't that great yet due to poor software although the hardware is pretty solid and I hope to buy the PS3 due to the Blu Ray but then again I'm older. I guess I'd go with the Wii then the GC if they can wait. Although I can't imagine the games looking all that great if the max they can display is 480p.

Dids,

I originally (wrongly it appears) figured the Wii would come out in December, have a 6 month waiting list and cost $350. For an extra $50, I don't mind upgrading as long as the wait time is weeks and not months.

I have plugged my daughter's friend's Gambecube into the TV and while the picture isn't HD, it suits my needs.

I like where this is heading becuase I am 90% certain my 9-year old wants a Game Cube. It's not often I can be a hero and make the correct parenting decision.

Any cons on the GameCube?

Yes--there is very limited 3rd party support for GC. PS2/Xbox have a much wider variety of games. I doubt your kids will care, though.

That said, I would also seriously considering waiting for a Wii. It will probably retail for $200-$250.

call it a hunch, but i think they will look better than games you're not playing because your game system's library sucks.

it's pretty impressive that you bought a 360, found yourself disappointed with its games, and decided to both buy a $600 ps3 and not buy a wii. do you have specific titles that you want when the ps3 comes out? have you looked at the games that are getting launched with the wii? money isn't a concern for me with video game systems, but i actually buy them to play games. so i don't own an xbox 360 or a ps3, and i won't until they have stuff that interests me. i'll have a wii the day it comes out.

I would buy them a supernintendo and a sega genesis with every single game ever put out (probably can do that for less than 200). They need to learn their history.
