Re: Almost 3 months as an almost pro (LONG)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'd probably recommend a job with poker acting as a secondary income...then if it goes well you can consider trying just poker the next summer [/ QUOTE ] This is sort of the boat I'm in, and why I'm trying to move up stakes. I'm convincing my wife that playing poker is my second job. It makes money, and we spend it right? And since when I withdraw it's usually cover short bank accounts.... it still gets a tongue in cheek when we're talking with friends and my second job comes up, but I think she respects it, since it has covered us in some sticky times. Not to mention paid for a semester of her son's college (which was -EV because he's out on academic probation). KO [/ QUOTE ] My wife gets a kick out of telling her friends that I play poker online and has bee nvery supportive of it. Plus, she really likes the Ipod I got her with my party pointts. |

Jax are you planning on becoming a fabulous coach at any point in your poker career? I'm talking about a paid coach, not some wanna-be coach.

So I'm sitting in my basement 'working' all day, reading the forums, playing poker, playing EQ2 at times (mornings when the tables are too tough). It's a fine line between work and play. KO |

Re: Almost 3 months as an almost pro (LONG)
[ QUOTE ]
One problem I have, and am curious if you do also, is that in the summer I find it hard to play many hands. Where as in the winter I can sit for hours and play. I always feel like I am wasting my day and that I should be out doing something. [/ QUOTE ] ramrod, it can be harder to get hands in during the summer. To avoid feeling like I'm wasting my day I usually try to play late at night when the rest of the world has shut down. Also, I don't enjoy the blistering heat so when it gets to ~30 degrees celsius (that's like 90-95 maybe?) I tend to like to stay inside anyways. |

Re: Almost 3 months as an almost pro (LONG)
Something I know a lot more about than poker - unless you (or your parents) are a relatively high elite rating on a major airline, you usually don't save any money waiting to book flights. Almost every airline in the world is in a cash crunch (except for South African and National for some reason) so they want your cash as long before the flight as possible, so they make those cheaper. Then, since they assume you are in a time crunch, raise prices closer to travel date. Also, don't fall into the trap of thinking that travelocity and the like are always the best deals, make sure you check the actual airline websites as well for specials.

My only problem with that is that I work at 8:30 in the morning, so I can't stay up as late as I would like to and play. Do you feel extra pressure to make money since you have no other income coming in. You are still in school so you probably don't have a ton of bills. If I was still in school I would probably do the same thing as you, semi pro. Have you casino whored yet? There is a ton of easy money to be made. |
