Q-Q pre and post flop quandry
As this is my first strategy post, please bare with me.
B&M $100-$200 NL $2-$5 blinds. Hero only sat for one orbit and had no reads. Hero's Stack - $220 Villain's Stack - $270ish UG Hero is dealt Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Hero Raises to $25. Folds around to villain in the BB. Villain raises to $75. Call - Push - Fold? Hero Calls. Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB pushes. Call? Fold? Hero folded. I feel like pushing preflop would have been the optimum play. Also, I felt BB was making a move, but hadn't ever played with him b/f and didn't trust my insticts. As the hand unfolded, I feel like it was played very weak. Thoughts? |

As it is, fold flop.
But dont get over a third of your stack in PF without planning to get it in on flop, so PF play is where problem is. I prob fold PF, unless hes big donk; then i prob get it in PF. |

In the "long run" you'll be ahead to push. I think this early in the game I'm folding. |

Re: Q-Q pre and post flop quandry
I push preflop becuase you have 40bb and I like to gamble early on to get a stack for the rest of the night. If this is nearing the end of your session and he isnt a tard I fold though.

Re: Q-Q pre and post flop quandry
Mr.Mojo - this type of situation occurs a lot at B&M NL, where the blinds are high. I'm just repeating Ahnuld below for the most part, but it comes up alot for me so wanted to emphasize the points he made.
At most B&M games I've played at this level, you are ahead in this spot most of the time and pushing is the optimal play. With no read though, how much do you want to gamble? If you'd prefer to wait for a better spot based on BR considerations, get better reads etc., I'd fold. But this is a pre-flop push or fold spot. Paul Phillips has also written extensively on the topic of looking to "gamble" early in a session and double / triple-up quickly to get a stack at these stakes NL cash games. -Al |
