Tipping at cashout (noob)
Is there a standard for tipping at cashout? I usually tip and am not sure if it is expected or what the protocol is. I havent ever seen anyone else do this.

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
I once saw a woman cash in for about $2050 and tip the cashier the $50... Ususally I will tip $1.

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
I may be a jerk for this, but usually after a losing session I don't tip. Lucky for the cage people I win about 70% of the time I go to the casino lol. Usually I tip $1 but if they are unusually and pleasantly friendly or funny I will tip $2-$3. Conversely, I never do tip floor people. I probably should start, especially if they rule in my favor in a situation.

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
I'm a bad person in that although I do tip the dealer $1 a pot (even on most chopped pots), and will tip the dealers in a reasonable tournament cash, I don't tip the chip runners and/or cage people.
Something about the idea that I'm changing money into chips and chips into money where both are just types of currency transactions raises my hackles if there is a transaction fee given how often one needs to make the conversions. |

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
I always give the cashier the random one dollar bills I get back. If none, I have given nothing for an easy cashout and a $5 when I had a lot of chips and she had to count things out etc. I don't think it is expected and they always seem very appreciative to receive a couple dollars, probably because it's not too common for them to get a tip but I'm not sure on that.

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
Tipping people to give you your money is kind of funny when you think about it.
I tip $2 every time. I actually asked if that was ok and they said usually no one tips. I asked about even the high stakes guys and they said that they get more from people cashing out 100-200 |

I tend to combine this with what others have said in a Boolean AND: If I've won and I have some loose ones, I might tip one or two. I don't really consider tipping at cashout an obligation, like tipping the dealer, but I do occasionally ask them to do weird color ups because of my obsessive curiosity about high-denomination chips. Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
What the [censored]? Tipping at cashout? Are you people [censored] retarded? Do you tip your bank tellers?
I only tip dealers because I know that putting up with 9 other people is quite difficult and the majority of the time they do a good job keeping the game moving. The difference between a good dealer and a poor dealer is 10-15 hands an hour, and that's quite a bit when the minimum is 20/hr. |

Re: Tipping at cashout (noob)
Hmm...It has never occurred to me that you should tip the cashier. I didn't think this was the custom in our country. Dealers, waitresses, drivers, coat check people I all tip, but tipping a cashier seems strange. Do you all tip the clerk when you deposit money at a bank? Or the cashier when you buy something at a store (not a restaurant)? |
