for what its worth, i think the best line here is either (bet, check, call), (check, call, call), OR checking behind the flop and folding any non Q turn. of course i cant actually check behind and fold but he clearly has you owned when he checks the flop.

ILP and I have talked about this alot. He says the following, "These dummies always go for the turn check raise, never a flop check raise"

So how do you spoil that? Bet the flop, they call, check the turn, call the river. You invest only 1.5BB

By checking the flop, and then calling down, you lose 2BB.

and really, it works out pretty well, esp when you are actually playing the AK vs. him, and check behind to induce a bluff, and you make them whiff on their "I have trips, c/r the turn line"

Honest question:

Why is a J a terrible turn card in this case? Seems like a fine card for us, or?

2) That's a terrible turn card. I still bet here and I really don't mind folding on the turn. I don't really like a turn check though, I don't see why we mind not taking this hand to showdown. If he was LAG it's a different story.

J is a bad card because now we're behind to JJ

Fold the turn or call the river. If you think you're behind on the turn then there is no point in calling since you have at most 2 outs. If you call the turn then you need to be putting your opponent on a pair of J's(not wired)>. The A doesn't cover nearly enough of his range to fold.

PS: This is clearly an easy fold on the turn versus a "typical fish".

Anyone read Lee Jones' Winning Low Limit Hold'em? He said something to the nature that if a fish check raises you, you know you're in really bad shape and it's a good time to fold?

I always cap this preflop against a 'typical fish'. The only reason not to cap is for deceptive purposes. You should only be trying to deceive smarter players.

If I don't have a grasp on a player then I am very suspicious of someone who 3-bets preflop HU then checks the flop. If I have a decent hand I will normally check behind on the flop and call turn/river bets.
