Pyramid and Widmer are both wildly overrated, IMO.

can you really find the dogfish at your standard whole foods? I can't get it at my local supermarket.

[/ QUOTE ]

Both the beers that I mentioned can be found at my local Whole Foods.

or Dogfish Head 90-minute IPA.

[/ QUOTE ]

this is a must - if you like ultra-hoppy beer (IPA's are easily my favorite style) you'll love it. i believe they have a 120 now too, no?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've tried the 120 and like the 90 better.

Walked into Whole Foods yesterday for the 2nd time and i keep passing by the beer section (which is quite intimidating). OOT, after the first row of typical "7-11/WahWah" beer what should I look to pick up?

thx

Never been to Whole Foods so I can't comment on their selection.

For everybody in love with Blue Moon, go try an Allagash White.

Three Floyd's Alpha King & Dogfishead 90 Min IPA (90 is better than the 120 & the 60) are very good reccomendations for IPA's, Bell's Two Hearted is my favorite.

Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout & Victory Hop Devil are both very good beers that have wide distributions.

Anything by Full Sail, especially the Amber, is delicious!

McTarahen's (sp?) IPA is really good too.

These are both oregon microbrews - they have them in socal wholefoods.

As far as IPAs go I don't think you can go wrong with STONE's IPA.

Huge Widmer fan, New Belgium as well. Just buy six different things and see what you like.

Incorrect.

I also second the Full Sail nominations.

I don't know if you can get it at Whole Foods, but try McMenamins Hammerhead Ale or Edgefield Wheat. Deelish.

All US breweries whose flagship beer is a hefe are pretty bad. Anything by Stone, alesmith, dogfish head, rogue will probably be excellent.
