Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the list
I wondered if I have a extreme problem with this and right now, it's a coin flip. However, I have two thoughts:
1. If I want to play at the Bellagio, I'll be certain to bring some extra cash as part of doing business. However, if I feel like waiting because I don't need to play RIGHT NOW, then I won't need the extra cash. 2. Seinfeld: FOUR! |

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
I agree that this does go on to some extent but consider the bigger picture. I have to agree with what others have said as most players would.
You say: "You can live in their world or you can live in your own imaginary world with made up rules where it is not allowed for you to pay and get a seat." Up until recent years poker had a very low public reputation due to the lowlifes assumed associated with it. Are you saying that we should destroy the current favorable popularity of poker (based partially on the perception of honesty) by allowing a few greedy employees taking bribes to bring it back to its former poor reputation? We need to identify these people and the players involved as well. Is your "buddy" who just bought your seat ahead of you much of a friend after all? Or maybe you are one of the customers and someday it may be you who is made to wait because someone else offered more money! If this becomes accepted practice it will reduce public confidence in the games themselves. |

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
Wow, can you guys blow this out of proportion (sp?) any more? You obviously haven't lived in Vegas or have never been in the service industry. There is only 1 rule and that is money rules. It is the same every where the bellagio staff are doing nothing wrong.
If you go to a bar and you are a known crappy tipper you aren't going to get near as good service as the guy sitting next to you who regularly tips 25-30%. It is the exact same thing. If you want to stick to your so called "morals" then I guess you are going to have to wait. Just as you are going to have to wait at the same bar, or 2 hours to get a seat in a popular restaurant. If you have a problem with it then stop being cheap and fork over $10 or stop crying and wait however long it takes. Or you can just play online so you don't have to tip anyone anything! |

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
Hahah, how is this news to the OP? I tip almost everybody in Vegas. Doing so gets me a myriad of perks. There's no rulebook that says you can't tip the floor person to get to the front. The only rule book is "the floor person makes the final decisions." Want that person to write you more food comps or allow you stay away from the table longer or get seats at the juicy tables or get to the front of the line? Money talks.

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
my post is pretty much a joke but its also the truth. however, most of you guys are being ridiculous as the op is definitely right here. tipping floor people to jump the list leads to corruption and causes everyone to tip instead of noone to tip. this then leads to the floor people making a hundred dollars an hour while the games are invested with pros who tipped to jump the list while the out of towner fish wait hours as people move ahead of them. this policy is extremely bad for the owners of the bellagio and it is in their best interest, along with all of the players, to have these corrupt floor managers fired. better yet they should disallow tipping the floor managers altogether. those of you who are ridiculing the op for calling out a serious problem need to get new gimmick accounts.

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
TStone, you sure got it right.
Too bad those "doing business" with employee seat salesmen have many convinced that this is just "the cost of doing business." This is dead wrong. Tipping a Maitre'D does not escalate into all kinds of other corruption as this does. Then we have an occasional poster claiming some loony conpiracy about the people here and reg dates; etc. I think some of these people appear to have seen to many flops while others have lost their sense of fairness for everyone. Summarizing your points (with some of my comments) makes this even clearer: 1. "Tipping floor people to jump the list leads to corruption and causes everyone to tip instead of no one to tip" for amounts that will constantly rise. The $10 tip will then require $15 as the attitude of the floorman accepting these payoffs gets even worse overtime. 2. "The games are infested with pros who tipped to jump the list while the out of towner fish wait hours as people move ahead of them." 3. "This policy is extremely bad for the owners of the bellagio and it is in their best interest, along with all of the players, to have these corrupt floor managers fired." EXACTLY RIGHT! 4. "They should disallow tipping the floor managers altogether." 5. "Those of you who are ridiculing the op for calling out a serious problem need to get new gimmick accounts." Some of these self deluded "poker stars" think that bribing the floorman is their ticket to leaving McDonalds a year sooner. Regardless, this seat buying scam must be stopped for the good of everyone. We need to publicly name names of all those taking and/or giving bribes. |

Re: Swing Shift Bellagio--Bring floorman cash if you want to jump the
With all this paying off of some poker employees going on, I can't help but have some questions:
.... Don't those in charge realize that allowing this will only lead to worsening problems? .... Why don't poker magazines like Cardplayer and the others, who must know what is happening on the inside, publish this? Do they think covering up this sleaze will help them and the game? Does their refusal to expose this make them as guilty as those participating? So much for freedom of the press and the "public's (honest players) right to know." In the end it is the tourist, the very player the scammers want in the game, who is most likely victimized as they do not know who is involved in what scam. Those involved in this will have a big problem if the tourists ever find out that they are being taken advantage of. I'm certain those paying off will have all kinds of excuses to justify their trashing of the rules. A sad day for poker. |

How much cash?
I agree that this is a regrettable situation that needs to remedied. However, for now, these are the "rules" that we have to operate under. With that in mind, how much does one need to "toke" the floorman to get a seat? Obviously it must vary as a function of the length of the waiting lists.
Also, is this commonplace at any of the other larger casinos that lack electronic lists? |
