Overall a very decent thing to do.

I'd say more generous than decent. I think decent implies that there to some degree people think this is expected behavior of a reasonable person in this situation. It is the table share that is higher because of the missed player, not the bad beat winner, so I'd say there is no expectation on the person who won.

Yes, the table share is higher but the fact is that the jackpot hand would not have occurred had the person been in the game and dealt cards. This is why it's a good idea to ask the dealer to deal you in next hand if you have to get up from the table.

I hit two jackpots at Hollywood Park in the span of a month...I had the winning hand on both...I guess the jackpots there are larger now, because I only received about $3000 on one hand and $5,000 on the other. Not that I'm complaining.

I also got up from my table at the Orleans a few weeks ago, missed a few hands, and when I came back they were passing out forms to fill out because the jackpot had been hit. It wasn't my table, but they have a room share there...so I was only out $300 thank god.

a "room share" is something you'll see in some Vegas poker rooms. If the bad beat JP is hit, not only do the players at the table get paid, but so does everyone else who was playing in the room at that time. I've got one story about a "room share".

Stations Casino in Vegas on a slow Sunday afternoon. I put my name on the list and wander to the sports book. While I'm in the book, I hear a LOUD roar come from the poker room. I assume it's a BBJP. 10 mins. later, they call my name for a $2-$4 game. I sit down and see everyone at the table has little disks in front of them that indicates exactly who was seated at the table when the jackpot hit. A minute later, the floorperson comes over to get a count of how many people will get a share of the money. He says out loud, "everyone at this table, right?" Immediately, 3-4 locals point at me and say "NOT HIM, HE WASN'T HERE.." I just grin and shake my head in agreement. I guess they didn't want to dilute their $65-$75 room share any further.

Fast forward 30-40 mins. and I'm up about a rack and a half by playing totally reckless. Playing almost any 2 cards, hitting runner-runner, gut shots, you name it. (c'mon, it's $2-$4) I've got 2 ladies on near tilt for sucking out on them and they're giving me a hard time about it. "I'm gonna get my money back from him..."

Well, now the floor comes back with the jackpot payoffs and I see it's gonna take a little while to pay, so I decide to rack up and leave. One of the ladies looks at me and barks out, "hey, where are you going with my money?" I smile at her, point at the floorperson and tell her, "whaddya' mean? They're bringing YOUR money right now..." I tip the dealer a little and I'm gone.

The Horseshoe poker room in Shreveport/Bossier City, LA has a "room share" bad beat jackpot. It takes quads over quads, I believe, to hit it. Last time I was over there about a month ago it was over $140,000, oh and there are only 12 tables in the room, so when it hits that should be a nice pay day for everyone in the room.

Always nice to hear a story like this.

Being Hollywood Park, am I correct in assuming the missing detail is how your friend got jacked on the way to his car? (Sorry, couldn't resist)

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah, I am acquainted with but not friends with Super Mario.

The detail was that this was AF?

I always said that being a nice guy was +EV...this story proves it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Andy Fox is nice guy number one on 2+2 but he rarely if ever goes to Hollywood Park. My best friend is nice guy Luddite number one. I'll probably leave the political part out of this since it really doesn't matter.

I think it was a double jackpot, although in fairness I have to say that HWP needs to up their mid limit (15/30 to 25/50) jackpots if they want to compete with Hustler (which seeds at 40K!, although I think HWPs is easier to hit).

Wow. That sucks that he missed the hand, but nice that the winner did that.

So, he missed a blind? In most casinos in Vegas I believe, you still qualify for the table share of the jackpot (in the casinos that have them) so long as you don't miss a blind (i.e. stepping away when not in a blind is fine).

[/ QUOTE ]

My friend didn't miss the blind, he usually takes his break a couple hands before he takes his BB. I think a policy where you don't miss a table share as long as you don't miss a blind is a good policy.
