That's what you're supposed to do. Because you're a poster others will have an easy time believing you hit that garbage flop with your random hand so there's a good chance you'll get HU like you want. Even if you don't you're still in pretty good shape. nh

I find these marginal hands that I get when I post, and then hit very difficult to play, especially when the pot is small.

I can see the attraction of the raise with the aim to get HU. But if the table is tight, what is MP betting with? Likely to be a nine with a better kicker, moderate poket pair, or flush draw with overcards. Two non-suited overcards (+/- BDFD) seems less likely.

What if he re-raises the flop? Do you calldown a small pot with a moderate hand? And if you just get called, there are a lots of scare-cards to come.

If the table is likely to be tight, is a fold unreasonable here?

Folding is definitely unreasonable. If the table is tight, players are getting away with betting weaker and weaker hands.

So you are saying that on a tight table, the MP3 bet is more likely to be a semi-bluff with less than top-pair?

At a tight table, you don't need top pair to bet your hand. While it's true that semi-bluffs are more profitable (the "bluff" part works more often), he could be betting a weak made hand like 77 or A5s (not clubs), as well as two overcards with a backdoor flush draw. At a tight table (especially weak tight tables), you can bet all sorts of weaker hands on the flop and make money. You'd like to have a piece of something so that if you happen to get called, you have at least *SOME* equity to help you out.
