How can you get past blocks and play poker??

My network at work blocks access to casinos and poker sites. I have quite a bit of dead time and would like to bypass this blockage and play poker / BJ. Is there a way to do this?

Well, there are a few of ways to do it.

You can tunnel all traffic through a SOCKS proxy via SSH to a shell account. Not the easiest to do.

Or you could use something like openvpn (this is what I use on occasion). Quite a bit harder to do. Especially if you a) you aren't a computer kinda guy and b) don't have access to a hosted linux or windows box somewhere.

Or you could use one of those 'go to my pc' services which will connect you to your home computer in a vnc-kinda way. This is probably the easiest to do.

while there are usually ways around internet blocks by using a proxy and such, don't assume that you're not being tracked by your employer. i monitor my network at work, and i would definitely notice all of someone's internet traffic being routed through a proxy. depending on how stingy your company is, attempts to circumvent or bypass your company's internet policy can lead to discipline... so proceed with caution.

that said, if you want to play it safe, the wireless internet is probably your best solution as you will not be using your company's internet connection.

Yeah, there is the topic of your network usage policy. I use port 443 to proxy alot of my traffic through my work's network and they haven't said anything. but there are a few thousand of us here, so a little blip on 443 would be hard to spot. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

If your job is +EV, then gambling on company time is -EV. I don't recommend it unless you get permission.

The only way I'd ever consider doing this is on a laptop with my own personal wireless service. I love poker and have enough downtime to do it, but it's not worth it.
