All the Harrah's properties have reduced rates for people in the Main Event, and they'll be running shuttles every 20 minutes.

Harrah's and the Flamingo are very close by, and right on the Strip.

What is my best option for hotel from July 27-Aug9. I am looking to spend 2000$ or less. Obviously close to the rio is good, but a hike isnt too big of a deal. Gold Coast is one option. Is there anyway to get reduced rates from the ones posted online for a longer stay like this? Besides poker rate that is Thanks in advance.

i have not read the other replies, but the goldcoast is a fking DUMP. i was there for 12 days last year, and my back is still sore from the filthy old mattress, and i am still finding lice in my pubes.

AVOID.

also, it is a longass walk from anywhere because of the location.

stay at rio. if you pre-register for any event, it is cheapo, and the rooms are awesome! i used this promo deal.

I just made reservations at the Rio. They tell me I can cancel my further stay at any time for no charge. So, it seemed to me that I should make reservations till August 10, and just cancel if I get knocked out early. This strategy is opposite of my plane strategy to book my flight to leave early and try to push it back.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Also, is the rio going to be ridiculously crowded or what? My girlfriend wants to use the pool. Will it be too crowded, or usable?

We're staying at the incredibly cheap Gold Coast. Yeah the rooms kinda suck and the bathroom is tinier than a closet, but I hardly spend time in the room anyhow. Their buffet is decent but the diner food is crap.

The Gold Coast is closer to the Rio than the rio parking lot is to the Amazon room in the rio.

$35 per weeknight and $75 per weekend night.

They remodeled their rooms IIRC. They are nice now.

Unexpected situation for me. I booked the Rio for June 26-29th for the WSOP discount of $109. I got there Monday night, and they offered me a free room at their new South Coast property (just for Monday night), $80 cash for taxis, and $50 voucher towards my two nights back at the Rio (or any Rio restaurants, etc). South Coast is a long way from the strip ($20 cab ride), but I just wanted a meal and a bed in a clean, safe hotel, so I took the deal.

South Coast was actually alright. Seemed as large as Rio. The room was fine. The Oyster Bar was very good, and reasonable. They have a 24 hour bowling alley, which would have been nice if I had any energy at all. Violent Femmes will be playing there in early July. And if your Mom is coming, they have a huge bingo parlor.

I think there normal rates are $55 for weeknights. But I don't know if I'd recommend this place. Certainly not if you've never been to Vegas and want to experience the Strip. Cab fare would eliminate the cost advantage (though maybe they have a shuttle service?).

I appreciated the savings, but was happy to be back in the Rio last night. The rooms are very nice, and it's great convenience to run back and forth between my hotel room and the poker action.

Don't avoid the Rio if you're expecting it to be a "madhouse". It's not any busier than any major Vegas Casino on the weekend. But it is kinda cool to be standing behind Andy Black at check-in, or Freddy Deeb at the seafood restaurant queue, or Layne Flack at Starbucks...

WTF???

Tried to book the Flamingo from the 11th July to the 11th of August. Apparently its illegal to stay in a hotel for more than a month, so why hold a 6 week festival? Im now going to arrive in on the night of the 11th and get into a cash game with all my luggage for 9 or 10 hours.

I'm staying at The Orleans. It has a shuttle to the Gold Coast, which is next door to the Rio (though it's still maybe 1/3 of a mile to get to the WSoP).

How much does the walk suck in the blazing desert? And what about walking back at 4am, is it safe (I am clueless about the area)?

Thanks.

Well, I thank God I didn't use that promo, since I got a better deal somewhere in the Internet (really don't remember where, probably even just googling Rio Suites). I got a week at the Rio for like $650 or something.
