Default Counting outs

With top pair, a player can have up to nine outs according to Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth (p.113 of Small Stakes Hold 'em)after the turn to beat 2 pair. I count 8 outs. For example: I hold a king and jack. The board is K,10,8,4. My outs are: 2 kings, 3 jacks and 3 of the pip that the opponent does not have. Where is the ninth out?
