Default PMs - are they really private?

Anybody know whether or not moderators can read PMs not addressed to them - either here or at other sites like Bonuswhores, Pocket5s etc?

There is currently some concern with regards to this since it is alleged that Management has been reading other people's mail at BW...

Anyone?

I have heard many rumors that PM's can be read by the site

I'm pretty sure the admins have full access to your PMs. They've probably got better things to do than read them though.

My thanks to whichever Mod moved this thread - I didn't really know which forum to post it in - although in retrospect "About the forums" should have been a rather obvious choice - duh...

Mods can not read your PMs (sent or received).

I don't know if Admins can. But, it's logical to assume they can.

I know when I was running a phpBB board I could but only if I went into the SQL database. Dunno if that'd be necessary with UBB, or if Admins can do it within the forum software itself.

Generally, sending anything sensitive over a message board's PM system is a bad idea.

theres a certaion degree of trust implied when you sign up for a forum, private messages , are surely private until such a time that litigation is invoked ... any forum or business that abused my trust without legal implications would be a concern for me ..

lmc,

You've been hacked. We can all read your PMs and also see your holecards when you play online. Change your passwords and reformat your hard drive.

The PM system is not secure at any message board, and you should not use it to transmit any information that you wouldn't be ok with being posted publicly. If you want private communciation, combine email with encryption.

That would explain my current loss streak - thanks! I thought maybe someone had hacked into my webcam and was watching my nervous facial tics whenever I bluffed...
