I don't think anybody has tried an electric without preferring an electric. Perhaps the plaque removal isn't any better, but my teeth sure as hell feel better. That seems pretty important to me.

Well, with that kind of logic, I think a purchase is in order.

The evidence is in!

"Powered toothbrushes with a rotation oscillation action reduce plaque and gingivitis more than manual toothbrushing."

http://www.cochrane.org/reviews/en/ab002281.html

And the consumer reviews as well.

Also note in the same article: "No other powered designs were as consistently superior to manual toothbrushes."

I just go by what they tell me in dental school. Also several students did reports on this in our freshman year Research and design class and all of them came to this conclusion.

I also recall them saying that most people preferred the sonicare (oscillating) to the oral b (rotating). And that the oral b is louder/more mechancial b/c the sonicare runs on magnets.

Just to be claer, they are significantly better for the avg person who doesnt have the manual dexterity to brush w/ a manual brush properly.

Okay, so what's the best so what's the best Sonicare? There's all kinds of them and I can't find a place that tells me which is best.

FWIW, the Sonicare Elite is awesome.

I don't bring it with me on vacations, opting for a standard/disposable brush. I end up longing for the sonicare after a few days and love that first brush when I get home.

Why don't you take it with you? Depending on how long your vacations are, you shouldn't run out of battery. Just take it apart and put it in your travel bag.

Does the toothpaste fly all over the place when you turn it on?
