Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Why not just call 911 and get an ambulance? High speed AND medical attention all in one. If not that, can your doc consider inducing labor at a particularly convenient day/time? I know nothing of these things (see title) so I'm interested in the possibilities... Edit: Congratulations! [/ QUOTE ] assuming you have insurance, and ambulance transport is covered in your policy, the correct answer is for your wife to call 911, have an ambulance get her, and you meet them at the hospital by not speeding. This way you don't risk your life, your babies life, your wife's life, and innocent people just driving on the highway. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with calling an ambulance, especially if you're at work. They'll get her there much faster than you driving home and then driving her to the hospital, plus she'll prolly get to skip triage. If she does call them, make sure she tells them that she's been told by a doctor to have a c-section. However, an ambulance ride will cost around a grand, so check if your insurance covers it, and a lot of them only cover a certain percentage. |

Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
You know what - you guys are right. I called her doctor today and asked them about timing, and unless it's life or death, I'll have time to get there before they start. If it is life or death, I could fly down in an F-16 and still not make it in time.
Her parents live right down the street from us, so she has a ride to the hospital. It's just a matter of me getting there. I'm not trying to be a douche about this. Our first kid was born without all this trouble, and this thing is making a mess out of me. I'll drive reasonably. |

Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
There's a book about being a medical intern called House of God (only read by medical students). Its pretty funny in a bleak sort of way, but would probably freak out anyone who hasn't worked in a hospital. Anyway, there is an older resident, the Fat Man, who is a guru of sorts for the interns. One of his "rules" of the hospital is this: In an emergency, the first step is to check your own pulse. It's good advice for situations like this.
Best of luck with the pregnancy/delivery/new kid, and as always, please drive carefully! |

I wouldn't be able to live with a car that is limited to 95.

Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
Women have been having babies for thousands of years in all sorts of situations. Pretty sure your presence is not going to make the difference, unless your very important job is being the worlds best C-section guy.
Drive at 70 - do you really want your kid to be born at the same time they stop trying to recussitate you because your dumb 95 mph driving ass got in a crash? |

Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
[ QUOTE ]
Here's the situation - I work about 40 minutes from the hospital. My wife is just over nine months pregnant and there have been some complications - nothing major, just some concerns about blood pressure and diabetes. She could go off at any moment, and they will do a C-Section, so there will not be a long labor. I can't, and I mean CAN'T stop working until she goes into labor. At some point, I fully expect a call at work that tells me I need to haul ass to the hospital. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, if your wife's doctor believed that she was going to need to have her C-section at a moment's notice, they would admit her to the hospital ahead of time. Consequently, I'm sure that you have time to drive to the hospital at a safe speed. |

Re: Speeding ticket or police escort?
Unless you work 100 miles away, you won't get there that much sooner if you go 25mph faster. You probably will get a ticket b/c some other motorist will call and report your maniac driving. Besides, you won't be getting her to the hospital any faster and, although you'd like to be there, you are a total accessory in this process. She and the doctors will manage on their own without your instruction.
