Default Re: Borgata starts annoying regulars to seek big games

I can't understand why poker players (most of whom are very good at math) don't seem to understand that it's the LOW LIMIT games that are most profitable for the Casinos, because there are more tables of them going, they're less likely to break and they have much larger player pools. Most casual poker players play in the smallest games, which tend to generate max rake every hand. A $20-40 game at Borgata tends to generate $140 (assuming full table), while a $2-4 or $3-6 game is around $125-135 depending on how many hands are dealt, but the $20 game is comped at twice the rate, meaning the house makes about the same amount of money. But there are usually many more of the lower games going and they are less likely to break. Those games are the bread and butter for the casinos. Several rooms in AC (Showboat, Bally's, Ceasars, Hilton) have no games as high as $10-20 and those rooms are all profitable. It makes perfect sense for the Borgata to try to hold tables in the Hi room for bigger games, a full $10-25 game generates $280 an hour and many of the weekend players in that game play big upstairs also. Some of the richest players won't play if the game is out on the floor, esp since the game is now uncapped, cash plays and the big stacks are often as large as 80k. The $25-50 game has been going recently and it generates over $400 an hour for the house, those players (some of whom play very big upstairs [think Titanium card]) also don't like playing out on the floor. I have played in both games both on the main floor and in the Hi room and even tho I don't mind playing on the floor, when there is a very big pot (over 10k) the crowds get very large and it makes people very nervous. I'm an attention whore so I don't care, but some of the very rich folks just don't like it. And the casino makes more money off of them than they make off the $20-40 players, so they get their way. Would 10 20/40 players generate more rake/time, book more hotel rooms, pay for more dinners, tip more dealers/waitresses etc than 100 1/2NL players?

No

If I owned a casino, I'd rather not make any money.
