I was on the Board of Directors of a community center and a mental health clinic (both non-profits, of course) in addition to helping out many community groups when I lived in NY. It's been 10+ years since I did any volunteering and I miss it. I'm thinking of signing up with whoever organizes visiting nursing homes with your dog.

I volunteered for The Mass Deomcratic Convfention, then didn't show up on the day i volunteered, then got a thank you letter from ted kennedy.

I volunteered to join the military, does that count? At the same time, I didn't have to volunteer myself when my unit got deployed to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina because I had to go.
