Friend plays roulette- calls me stupid
Not sure if this is the right forum for this or not, but I couldn't think of another place to put it. Basically I have a friend who plays roulette, which we all know is a -EV casino game- very -EV in fact.
He keeps telling me to try it, that he has a system. This guy is quite a bit smarter than I am and he thinks that I just don't understand. His system is nothing special- it's just the tired, regurgitated Martindale system. Lose a bet, double your bet amount, etc. He insists that he makes $1 per hand. I tell him straight out that since he's ahead right now, to quit while he can. I tell him that I don't want him losing his hard earned money- he plays it at least a couple hours every day online. He says that I'm just jealous and that he can teach me the ropes. I tell him that there's only one way to beat roulette and that's to somehow predict with engineering vectors where the wheel can land, that it's very difficult and most casinos do re-align their wheels, and that this can't be done online anyway. Then he just goes back to talking about how he bets 1 dollar on red and 2 on black, and if he loses then 1 on red, 4 on black, loses again, 1 on red 8 on black, whoo he wins so he's ahead or whatever. Any advice would be appreciated. I haven't gotten to the "you're stupid, stop being stupid" line because he'd just be like OOTers and mention his SAT score which was 150 points higher than mine. I want him to stop being dumb and to stop the eventual pissing away of his money, but I don't know what to do without insulting him. |

Re: Friend plays roulette- calls me stupid
Just post the statistics on how many times you can lose at the roulette wheel 20 times in a row, and have him figure out how much money he is going to need to wager on his 21st try to win 1$.

Smelly,
let him lose his money. He'll learn eventually. SAT score is not a measure of raw intelligence. |

Other Gambling Games is the forum your looking for [/ QUOTE ] That's more of a probability/strategy forum and I was looking more for advice on how to beat some sense into my friend. |

I would recommend pointing out to this guy that his "system" is nothing new, and Vegas wasn't built from roulette winners.

If you can formulate coherent sentences (which it appears you can), I have a hard time believing this guy is quite a bit smarter than you.

[/ QUOTE ] I think he just got sucked in like people get sucked into those make money quick schemes that they see on infomercials. he's never been the kind of guy to look at things from multiple angles and evaluate. |

In that case, the only way for him to learn is going to be trial and error. Don't lend the guy a penny.
