Default Did I make a terrible fold on the river with my Trip Aces here?

1 fold, MP calls $2, Hero raises to $6, 1 fold, BB calls $4, MP calls $4.

Flop: ($19) 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)

Turn: ($59) J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $35, MP calls $35.

River: ($129) T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP bets $40, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $169

I didn't really have any reads on my opponent yet, except that they seemed a little loose.... however this was the first time my opponent had raised into anyone though on the river. Usually he would just check/call on the river when he seemed unsure if he had the best hand and had to act first ....My opponent played this hand like a draw to me (straight or flush) and even though I was getting a little more than 4 to 1 to call my instincts were saying to fold ...that my opponent hit either the flush or the straight. Did I make a horrible laydown here? What range of hands could I put my opponent on besides a draw? Critique of all streets welcome. Thanks.

He's probably got you beat about 80% of the time.

Oh yeah, getting 4:1 that means call. I probably would've bet around 50 on the turn also.

I can't blame you for folding, villan played exactly like a draw. But you have to pay off on the river because even when he wins that extra bet, it still dosen't justify him calling on flop and turn with his draw. Also if he sees that you'll fold to the scare card, he'll start bluffing more.

your reraise of a limper should at least be to 10 preflop. Flop bet is good, Turn bet is weak, bet close to pot, your bet looks like a milk bet. River fold is poor.

He has the flush often here I think, but you are getting a price you can't really refuse. The other big downside of letting him get there cheap is that you let slowplayed aces up or a set of 3s or 7s off extremely easy, as with these hands he could be making a river block planning on folding to a push.

I just noticed this thread was originally here

and that you are playing at the penny tables. I don't post this to be rude, but just to point out the play at .01/.02 is much different than then play at 1/2. People at those stakes will pay high prices with draws, and you realistically should be overbetting the flop with this hand and potentially just going all in on the turn - at those stakes people will call anything off with a draw. The advice you get at this forum won't translate well often times to micro-limit, just as a heads up.

Call, certainly, given the odds.

Also, preflop, don't go 3x just because you really like youre aces and dont want to win preflop. 4-5x much better, thin the field.
