Is it a well-known fact that these shows such as Maury and Springer are paying these people to act on their shows? I don't know anyone who has ever been on these shows, but I think it is completely obvious, especially in the OP's clip, that these people are acting. Are they paid to humiliate themselves on national TV or what is the deal? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, many of them are actors, or are paid to come on and lie. The same is true of game shows (If you ever turn on the game show network, you can often see people fromt hose shows back in the 70's who ended up making it and acting in tv and/or the movies, although usually not as big parts so you won't know their names).
