Re: bands/acts that were great but get no respect
[ QUOTE ]
Dom, I'm confused. Chic, Steve Miller, Berlin, and Veruca Salt all garner a pretty good amount of respect. [/ QUOTE ] really?? Chic, maybe...Steve Miller, while popular, has never been a critics favorite. Berlin has always seemed to be thought of as a cheesy 80s band. And Veruca Salt's two albums both undersold AND were hated by most critics. |

The Sweet and I'll second T Rex, although I think that they actually did get some respect. Shauna |

Cheap Trick...check ou their discography, it's amazing how much they've done. Whenever I talk music, nobody mentions these guys until I do...then they're all like "oh yeah! Cheap Trick!" Whatever.

Dom, I'm confused. [/ QUOTE ] As am I. And how is Oasis everyone's #1 choice? Since when weren't they respected? ScottieK's nomination of Cheap Trick is a decent one. But they also got pretty decent respect. But it's one of the best answers so far. Same with Faith No More. They never "blew up", but FNM / Mike Patton has one of the biggest cult followings ever. To speak ill of them will get you beat up in some circles. Television is on the top of every record collecting dork's list of "bands that punk owes it's life to." I'd call that respect. Maybe I just don't get the point of this thread. Are we talking mostly mainstream bands that sort of got out there, but never fully materialized? Or are we just going to sling out bands that carved a great niche for themselves but only with a limited (though often large) demographic. My vote would be for Belly and Throwing Muses. During the early-mid 90s when "alternative" was fun and the female vocalist thing was popular, I thought they had the chance to get pretty big. I'd still say they're well respected, but probably not enough people know about them (belly moreso than Throwing Muses). |

Re: bands/acts that were great but get no respect
I saw this great act in Mexico involving a young women and a donkey, and after the spectacular show I found myself wondering why such a talented duo were stuck doing shows in some dirty bar in Mexico. I just don't get why these preformers are not better respected.
