Default brand new laptop is hourglassing like crazy

I fear this falls under the category of “not enough information to respond” but…

I just got my new laptop in the mail from Dell. It has a fuckton of RAM and a 2.0 Duo Core processor. It is pretty nice.

However, every 7 seconds (even when no one is touching the computer and no programs are open) that little hourglass pops up next to the pointer as if the computer is performing some task. Any clue what this could be and how I can stop this? The computer came bundled with a bunch of [censored] so I suspect this could have something to do with it?

Go to the task manager, click on processes and sort by CPU. Try to see which one jumps to the top when the hourglass appears.

Did you update the security software on the new machine?

"New" != "secure".
