Balancing career poker playing with a healthy lifestyle
I hear many of the most successful pros talk about how they are a winning player but thier health/and or social life is severely hindered. It seems like a very tough balancing act if you ask me. I was wondering if i could get some insight from some players who have been successful at poker and at the same time maintain a healthy lifestyle mentally and physically and how they go about doing it. If this has been posted before a link would also be appreciated , thank you much and good luck

I would reply to this post, but I am too busy 6-tabling on party alone in my room while eating nachos and red bull.

Re: Balancing career poker playing with a healthy lifestyle
I'm a recreational player and I still have a hard enough time working on my game and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
EDIT: Here's a link. EDIT2: There are only a couple posts in the linked thread that actually describe a social life. |

Re: Balancing career poker playing with a healthy lifestyle
start playing basektball. that will keep you physically in shape, and you can make some friends there. or if you're young, then move in with kids or friends that go to college and they'll party at your house. that should keep you in line

Re: Balancing career poker playing with a healthy lifestyle
just go to the gym before you play so that you can get it out of the way. It doesnt take as much time as you think, you just have to physically get yourself there which is the challenging part.
This is what my schedule is like today. 2:30PM-5:30PM wakeup, eat, 2+2, some 6max on party 5:30PM-7:00PM - cardio and weights 8:00PM-3:00AM - Ceasars or Showboat |

Re: Balancing career poker playing with a healthy lifestyle
I agree with playing hoops or something.
I play on a couple of rec-league soccer teams so that's a good thing. But overall I feel my life is not where I want it to be in some areas. So I'm working on it. Obviously one just needs to focus on not being so damn lazy and getting out of the house every once in awhile. In some ways, it should be EASIER for an online-pro because your time is your own and you can do whatever you want whenever you want. But, for many people, it's just to easy to get super-lazy and blow-off some aspects of social-life. The social and fitness aspects become just as much part of something you have to actually 'work at' in order to maintain balance in your life. |
