Default SSNL 101

Villain is unknown. Maybe preflop isn't good against an unknown? I've been pondering postflop a bit, and talked with a high stakes player who didn't agree with my line. I'll post my thoughts in a bit. I'll post the turn/river action later.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB ($94)
UTG ($170)
MP ($249.45)
CO ($217.55)
Hero ($257.70)
SB ($278.60)

Preflop: Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $1.
1 fold, MP calls $2, CO raises to $8, Hero raises to $26, 2 folds, MP folds, CO calls $18.

Flop: ($57) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
CO checks, Hero ?

we have the chance to make QQ and KK to fold. I'd take it.

I voted bet $30, it's fairly drawless and if he calls any flop bet you're in bad shape (ie i'm not looking to put any more into the pot if he calls). It's really a bluff on the flop that you're repping a bigger hand than you've got.

If you had say K's which are in better shape vs his range (and can still get value from Q's/J's), I'd rather check through the flop.

PF is villian dependent but I usually do like RR here w JJ & position on CO raise.

Isura,

how come you're moving up? Everey1 seems to be moving up lateley, I gues all you are chasing me!

Anywhooo, I'm much happier checking this flop with KK, not to mention, even with KK, I'm not checking here 100% of the time. With KK, I check it say 65% odd of the time, with JJ, 30% odd. So I think in general I like a $30 bet here.

Arguement for checking:

[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] value from worse hands

[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A chance to possibly hit our 2 outer

Arguement for betting:

[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] We find out if we're good right away and are less likely to get blown off the best hand

[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] We charge villain to outdraw us if we're ahead

With KK, there are more hands that can pay us off when we check, and less hands have outs to outdraw us. These are my main 2 reasons why I like betting more often with JJ here. I say to only bet $30, as its a dry board

Doesn't betting only $30 make us look weak and open to a bluff? That's just $4 more than our preflop raise.

Well you don't need to pot it IMO to accomplish the bluff. I think anything more than $40 is too much though.

I voted for bet $55, because that is what I would bet had the flop actually connected with my hand. If you normally make 1/2 PSB I would prefer the $30 bet. Checking is horrible IMO, you will almost always be looking at a big bet on the turn. JMO

bet 30. I dont see a reason to bet bigger on this flop. now with KK you might want to keep the pot small and check.

now I do want to ask, say you check behind with KK and villian, maybe hes unknown, whatever...but say he fires a moderate size bet on the turn...action? assume u call and he does the same for the river.

I bet $30 because it accomplishes the same as making it a PSB without costing twice as much. If called, I am not putting another dollar in the pot and check/folding as there is no way we are ahead.
