I thought 74 was a pretty safe, realistic answer.

Anyway if you want to see some statistics that answer this question based on your own results, I recommend looking up the variance simulator floating around somewhere.

Keep playing with those 69 buyins, buddy. See if you're still here in 6 months.

Absolutely not enough. If you play poker professionally I say 80-100, recreationally or part-time then 50-60 is fine.

The point is that there is no answer to how big a winning player's swings will be. You could have a 1000 buy-in downswing; it is just a very rare experience. So the question becomes how rare an experience are you comfortable with. Most people are ok with 30-50. Especially if they play more casually and can move down limits.

It makes since that higher stakes players want more buyins. They play very seriously, earn lots of income, and have to bare a lot greater opportunity cost if they have to move down limits.

1000 buyin downswing? no way. you don't need to be playing if your downswings are that bad.

I love having 100 buyins, because of my preferences mentioned in wiggs' post.

With 100 buyins

I never put 1 penny of scared money on the table

I can take shots at higher buyins and have that same non-scared mentality

Unless I go on superwild monkeytilt I never have to move down

I feel very comfortable with 50 buyins. 100 is just UBER comfortable.

Some people feel UBER comfortable with 15 buyins and this was covered very well in wiggs' post.

So the answer is obviously 71.5

I'll venture to say no winning player will ever have a 1000 buy-in downswing (you're not a winning player if you do). But a casual player with a ~15% ROI is relatively safe with 30 buy-ins (~1.3% chance of ruin over your next 500 SNGs).
