It is illegal to hail a cab in Vegas. Well it is illegal for them to stop and pick you up. Your options are to pay the guy to wait, call a cab when you are ready to leave, or walk up the street a bit to the Plaza and get a cab there.

It is illegal for cabs to stop and pick up passengers on THE STRIP. You may hail a cab anywhere else in the city.

During daylight hours you can walk back to the Plaza (you'll probably be able to hail a cab on your way back and won't have to walk the entire distance). If you are there when it is dark you should have the cabbie wait or call for one. That is not the best part of town to walk around.

This might be true or might be a recent change. I remember many years ago when I lived in Vegas reading a newspaper article where they were fighting over this, so I don't remmeber the details.

is this place really worth the trip?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. If you like to gamble, it's like Toys R Us for a 6 year old. Very very neat place. Others have spoken well of the selection.

Go during the day and walking back to the Plaza should be OK. In fact, I'm not sure this place is open all that long into the evening anyway.

www.gamblersgeneralstore.com

Claims 7-days, 9am-6pm.

Doubt there's much there that you can't buy online for a lot less. But at GGS you can see it before you buy it. And if you have an emergency need for a chuck-a-luck dice cage, they'll probably have it.

just a note, I know Randy mentioned them below, but be sure you're not confusing the Gambler's General Store with the Gambler's Book Shop / Club. Both worth checking out, but different places in different parts of downtown.
